Free EP + Album Price Reduction!

I put up a free EP on Bandcamp right here:

In addition to “Radio Doesn’t Lie” off Dropland, there’s an awesome remix by my friend Ian McKinney (more of his music here: http://ianmckinney.bandcamp.com/), a previously unreleased track in the form of “The Slowdown”, and an alternate take on the Dropland track “Years”.  All in all, a bunch of goodness at no cost to you!

Also, I’ve reduced the price of Dropland in iTunes and Bandcamp to $8.  In the case of Bandcamp that means the price of both the digital copy as well as the physical copy are now $8, plus $2 shipping for the CD.

Mission Creek 2012

The Mission Creek Festival here in Iowa City is bringing back one of my favorite musicians: Tim Hecker.  If you haven’t checked out his album ‘Ravedeath,1972′ from last year you have done yourself a disservice.  There’s loads of praise out there for the album, so I’ll keep it simple and say that it is a beautiful, moving work.

The source material for the album was a set of recordings done in a church in Reykjavik, and to recreate it live Tim will be performing at the First United Methodist Church.  I’ll be playing a short set to open, along with Nathan Wheeler, late of New York.

Last Shows of 2011

After the brain-melting experience of getting my first album out, I’ve got two (very different) shows left before we say goodbye to 2011.

Next Tuesday (11/15) I’ll be playing IHearIC, which is now being graciously hosted by The Mill. If you haven’t heard of it, IHearIC is a concert series started by Jared Fowler that bridges the gap between musicians studying at the University of Iowa’s School of Music and, well, everybody else I suppose. In the past, everyone has been limited to 10 minutes to accomodate a larger number of performers than you might regularly see in a given evening (usually between 6 and 8 acts, if memory serves). Imagine a big, free (yes FREE) musical buffet and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what’s in store. I’ve always enjoyed both playing and attending these; come by on Tuesday and hear me do a couple ambient pieces. Doors at 8.

A big thanks to everyone who helped out, including:
Kent Williams, for both mastering the album and providing invaluable creative input.

Nathan Hinshaw, for creating some seriously awesome packaging for me.

The Mission Freak Records Crew, for helping me get the album distributed and for helping me get the word out.

And of course Kathleen Tandy, whose contributions are too numerous to list.

I’m incredibly excited to have this out; I hope you enjoy it!

CD Release Show @ the Mill!

This is going to be a doozy:  Postfontaine, Stephanie Rearick, myself and Utopia Park are set bring the jams hard.  Postfontaine is the newest pseudonym of Craig Eley, who has been working on an ambient set that he’ll debut for you.  Stephanie Rearick will play some experimental piano compositions with the assistance of some looping pedals for added awesome.  And Utopia Park, Utopia Park, Utopia Park.  It’s going to be madness, I tell you.  Madness.

AND you can get a copy of Dropland! Take it home with you, listen to it, love it.
